Samudra Manthan Scheme: Rs. 84,084 Crore Deep-Sea Oil & Gas Exploration
ரூ.84,084 கோடி ‘சமுத்திர மந்தன்’ திட்டம்
The central government has released guidelines to search for oil and natural gas deep under the sea at a cost of Rs. 84,084 crore. Approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Modi in July, this is India’s largest offshore oil and natural gas exploration project.
The project will be implemented through the 2030–31 financial year and is expected to add oil and gas energy equivalent to more than 60 crore tonnes to India’s reserves. The central government will provide financial assistance for drilling 56 exploratory wells in deep and ultra-deep waters and 4 geological wells.
Regions with water depths above 400 metres are classified as deepwater, and above 1,500 metres as ultra-deepwater.

‘College Campus Tour 2026-27’ Scheme for Government School Students
அரசுப் பள்ளி மாணவர்களுக்கு ‘கல்லூரி களப் பயணம்’ திட்டம்
School Education Minister Rajamohan launched the ‘College Campus Tour 2026-2027’ scheme in Chennai to help government school students pursue higher education. The state-level inauguration was held at the Anna University campus in Chennai.
The scheme aims to create awareness about higher education, provide direct exposure to college environments, and guide students based on their interests and skills.
Under this scheme, 1,47,631 students requiring special attention from government schools across 38 districts will be taken to visit 741 government and private colleges with the cooperation of the Higher Education Department.

Historical significance: The Maruthu Pandiyar brothers (Periya Maruthu and Chinna Maruthu) were early freedom fighters and rulers of the Sivaganga kingdom who led the South Indian Rebellion of 1801 against British colonial rule.

Oskar Klein Medal 2026: Ashoke Sen Becomes First Indian Physicist Awardee

Indian physicist Ashoke Sen has been awarded the prestigious Oskar Klein Medal, becoming the first Indian physicist to receive this honour.
Established in 1988 in memory of Swedish theoretical physicist Oskar Klein, the medal is awarded annually by Stockholm University and the Nobel Committee of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Prof. Sen delivered the Oskar Klein Memorial Lecture on October 22 at the AlbaNova University Center in Stockholm, Sweden, where he received the medal.
He is an honorary professor at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS) of TIFR in Bengaluru, renowned for his work on String Theory and research on black holes. Earlier honours: Padma Shri (2001), Fundamental Physics Breakthrough Prize (2012) and Padma Bhushan (2013).

Renowned culinary expert Damodharan, popularly known as ‘Chef Damu’ (72), passed away in Chennai on Sunday, October 25 due to ill health.
He created a Guinness World Record in 2010 by cooking 617 dishes continuously in 24 hours, 30 minutes and 12 seconds. Honouring his 40-year contribution to the culinary arts, the Central Government awarded him the Padma Shri in 2025.
